    Hi Everyone

It's been so long since I have been on the site but it's nice to be back, and I hope you are all well, I have been so busy with one thing and another, made redundant for a start and have a few deaths in the family, who would have though that a secure job as a nurse would be at risk, but then I suppose in these times everyone is at risk, luckily I have found a new job in a nursing home, although it is not perfect as today nursing homes are run purely as a money making machine and I am not able to provide the quality of care I would like to despite many arguments with management. Anyway down to the question. I have my great granddads service record which lists all his children and there dates of birth, however on the 1911 it lists there ages and they are all a year out is this something that is normal? doh!! just realised, this would be the age they were at the time of completing the census, oh the old brain cells are quickly geting less and less

glad to see you've landed on you feet. i agree, nursing homes are quite difficult time wise. i always wonder wether the residents get enough to eat at meals when they need assistance.

I work four nights a week with equals full-time hour. It is a sad that that there are some poor standards of quality of care out there with some poor staff, on the other hand there is also some good care out there. Part of the problem it that big companies become involved and see the elderly purely as a money making machine, and they are driven by money, an empty bed is a loss maker.

I cannot speak for food through out the day as I am not there, however, at night I make sure that the resident gets enough fluids and if they want food they will get it.

I when into nursing late in life (37) after I qualified, my first job was in a nursing home, when I was there some of the standards of care was so poor that I reported a nurse who was mainly responsible, to the NMC (Nursing and midwifery Counsel) and well as the manager, this of course required the manager to conduct an investigative, resulting in the nurse been struck off and loosing her registration. After i was made redundant as a prison nurse and needing work I applied to the same company perhaps that is why did did not get an interview or offered a post :o
