  • Can anyone spot a baptism for Stephen/Steven Furlong please

This is an odd one as I can find his siblings being baptised in the St Paul Shadwell area but not this man.

He married Mary Ralph Gollings in 1802 in S George of East. He has a death reference on ancestry which suggests he was born in 1764 which would place him over 15 years older than nearest sibling that Ive found? There is also a lease assignment to his widow which would place his death as 1833. His bro Luke was a witness at the marriage to Mary Gollings :(

Can anyone spot a likely baptism please?

    Hi

If there's a 15 year gap between Stephen and his siblings, it is possible that he's his mother's son, but not Mr Furlong's son? Do you know his mother's maiden name?

Hi, no cant get that yet Name is apparently Mary - for the other sibs but Im beginning to doubt such a big gap. I mean he is shown as single on the marriage record and Id have thought in 1802 - at the age of 38 would be a bit unlikely. Not that that helps - still no sign of him even if I shave 10 years off his age.

Of course, it is an Irish name and we know how difficult that could prove. Possibly dad was in army/navy - as he was also a gunsmith andStephen may have been born abroad.

May not have been baptised as a child, of course. Normally the baptism register would have some kind of annotation, if it were not a childhood baptism.

Thanks Val but thats his son.

The rest of the family were baptised though :( Im just thinking also - as its an Irish name - may be he was baptised in Ireland or indeed his dad may have well been in the military as a gunmaker.
