  • Where would London E.C be ?

in 1881 have my rellie and it does say born in Islington which is right , now think I have found her in 1891 but says born London E.C could that still be her ?

I think Islington is N1 district. EC is more in the City.
This Wikipedia lists London postal districts.

Looking at the map in that article, N.1 and E.C.1 are next to each other.

London EC covers/covered City of London and areas between the city and Islington such as Clerkenwell and Finsbury so near enough I should say - perhaps she was born near the boundry, or moved across the boundary when small?

Hard to say Val. I suppose if you lived right on the border of two postal districts, some streets could be generally thought to be in one when in fact they were in the other. If you see what I mean!

Ooops, Judith beat me to it!

If I remember rightly EC used to be East Central London whereas WC was West Central, NW was North West London etc

Just a thought. Registration districts and postal districts have completely different boundaries. As has been mentioned, Islington and Finsbury are adjacent so the actual birthplace is likely to be very close to the boundary.
