  • Charlton Kings, Glos - Burgess

In a typed out copy which reads

    1851 Name:
    Charles B Burgess b c 1847
    Father Charles
    Mother Elizabeth.
    born : (sic) Chorlton, Glouc.
    Civil parish: Charton Kings County/Island.
    (text in blue removed )
    Registration district. Cheltenham
    Sub-registration district: Charlton Kings

    Household -
    Charlton Burgess 35
    Charles B Burgess 4
    Elizabeth Burgess 38
    Elizabeth Burgess 12
    Fanny Burgess 8
    Joseph Burgess 1
    Louise Burgess 5
    Mary Burgess 2 Reg

This particular Charles Burgess was Charles Brown Burgess, son of Charles Burgess

I'm wondering why it mentions the part in blue (above) - why would they mention marriage and disability if the boy was only 4?

Hope someone can work this mystery out.

Surely, this is just the way the transcript for an individual is shown on Ancestry? It is their standard format and has no particular significance.

Agreed Scuda, these are just column headings on the census page

By the way, although the transcript gives the birthplace as Chorlton, I read it as Charlton Ks.

As Judith and Scuda have said the bit in blue is just the column headings.
It is a direct copy and paste from a site such as Ancestry and as such contravenes copyright - which leaves me no choice but to edit it slightly!! Sorry that it makes your post slightly irrelevant now, but at least you have your answer!

Yes, I do thanks Elaine, I'm not familiar with Ancestry or its headings.

            My apologies.
It wasnt set out in columns when I got it - hence my query.

            Thanks also Scuda & Judith
