I need to obtain some details of a great uncle who left England in 1881 and settled in Natal, married, and had children there, is there anybody who can help me do some research in South Africa, or tell me which site I can use to do that research, I am going in circles with Ancestry (who have nothing) and WorldVitalRecords who have next to nothing, where can I go next please?

Familysearch has indexed some of the records it has online:
Discover your family history. Explore the world’s largest collection of free family trees, genealogy records and resources.
It has some for Natal that I don't think have been indexed yet; you may order these films to the family history centre nearest you for a small fee, and view them there:

http://lists.rootsweb.ancestry.com/i...TH-AFRICA.html Rootsweb has a mailing list for SA you can subscribe then ask for help from the membership when you have subscribed and you will find many willing hands offering help as I got with the India List.

I am looking for a Will which would have been registered in the Durban area, so will have a look at the links, especially Roots Web.Simon

Have you tried the links here on our own SA page: http://www.familytreeforum.com/conte...1-South-Africa
In particular the National Archives of South Africa (NARS) site. Then it's worth visitng http://www.eggsa.org/. I found details of a will on the former and then I paid a minimal amount for somebody on the latter to photograph it from the archives.
The most useful site for finding out where to look for things in SA is the top one on the list.
P.S. Durban is one of the archives which eGGSA can visit.Caroline

Thanks Caroline. Yes, I have looked on the NARS site, found my relatives death certificate which says there was a Will, but not found the Will, It could possibly be a UK Will but as he had left the UK many years before, I think it most likely to be a South African one. EGGSA need the references from NARS before they can supply copies of the document.
