  • Occupation help please on 1881

Now, DONT read what ancestry says the job is first, as I did and tried fitting the words to it.

Can anyone please check out occupation of John Melton on the 1881. Earlier/later census no help as they dont seem at all related to this one.

    Many thanks people.

Oh fine, thanks everyone. I made the mistake of reading ancestrys transcription first and when I do that I cant see anything but that sometimes I guess the bit over the top says "office?" may be just the enumerators classification of the job.

          Thanks a lot everyone.

Think Ena Sharples! My g-grandmother took over from her deceased husband as caretaker of a town hall in a suburb of Torquay. She lived there as well with her children.

Yes, I did think of that John when I read it, lol. "The Mission". I just imagined he would have to live on the shop so to speak, but I guess he probably lived nearby. I do have a town hall caretaker in London in my lot too and come to think of it, he lived opposite the hall.
