  • 1841 address search

I am trying to find out if the William Brown who died in Leicester in 1839 is mine. The age is 8 years out on the BMD register, and there were a few around with the name. According to FamilySearch this William Brown lived in Church Gate, Leicester, whereas in the 1841 my lot were in Public Wharf. Can anyone see if there are any Browns still living in Church Gate in 1841, as I am having trouble trying to find the place on Ancestry. I will get the cert if I can't be sure, but thought I'd check it out first.

He was buried in St Margaret's if that is any help.

My William Brown was born 1891 and his youngest child was born Dec 1835, so I assume he died sometime between 1835 and 1841.

    Thanks
    Linda

Thanks Val and Debss - yes it is 1791 he was born (and I thought I'd checked everything). Debss, I think it is only in Leicester itself, and probably in the parish of St Margarets, that is the church they seemed to always use.

Thanks for the ref, I will have a browse later on.

Thanks again Debss. I have found a Pigots Directory on-line for 1828 and 1835, and he is listed in both (he was a Coal Dealer) and both times at Public Wharf. I think it unlikely then that he would be the one who died at Church Gate.

It's back to the drawing board then - where and when did he die!
