11 Dec 1867 Brewer Atkinson married Mary Gordon at the church of St Michael, Ordnance Place, Chatham, Kent.
Brewer was in the marines and was a widower. (He & Mary went on to have 2 children, before Mary died in 1877.)
There is an earlier marr reg for Brewer Atkinson, Medway, Sep qtr 1863. The other groom was Joseph Byron & the 2 possible brides were Alicia Eustace & Martha Wickens - I think Joseph married Martha.
Prior to the marriage, I can't find an Alicia Eustace in census.
Nor can I find a likely death reg (1863 - 1867) for an Alicia Atkinson.
The second marriage, with Brewer recorded as a widower, was a "marine marriage."
I think marines tended to "stay put," unlike the army who had frequent postings at home or abroad. So, I think Brewer's family and personal circumstances would have been known to his CO and that "widower" was probably the truth.
Can anyone help with Alicia, please? (I would like to find her year of death just to tidy up Brewer's profile.)
