  • Banns announced, but no marriage?

in 1804, banns for Hale COVERLY and Cleave Ann COLLINS were read for all three Sundays.

The record for the banns is on Ancestry. There are 10 sets of banns on the two pages. 8 of the 10 have the letter 'M' by them, two (including the Coverly/Collins entry) do not.

I have not found a record of marriage, nor of Hale having any children.

    Did this marriage happen?

Also, Hale Mason COVERLY appears to marry in 1808 in Nova Scotia (yes, the middle name of the Hale Coverly, post #1, was Mason). I have reason to believe he died shortly thereafter. I've found no record of other Coverlys in NS that could be related to him. Anyone else see anything?

Looking at the banns images, do you think the bride to be is really Cleare rather tha Cleave?

Guess you saw this Freedom of the city

Maybe Hale Coverly is not as unique as I thought...

Yes, I think I have the Freedom, definitely have the baptism. He's just a side branch, but I've always liked the name. Dunno where the name Hale came from.

As to Cleare v. Cleave - not sure.

No one's hazarding a guess as to whether the marriage took place?

Ancestry has banns for this one, 6th, 13th and 20th October 1805 - Hale was a bachelor of the parish of St George Botolph Lane. http://search.ancestry.co.uk/Browse/...ph+Lane.1805.2
It doesn't look like this marriage happened either. Mary was of the parish of St Botolph Bilingsgate which shared a rector with St George Botolph and the other couples listed in the banns book married at ST Botolph but no sign of Hale and Mary.
