  • Help to find sisters please

I have searched and searched for these two sisters and would be really grateful for any help.

Caroline Ellen Marsh born 1867 and Mary Jane Marsh born 1870, both born in Culford, Suffolk.

They are both on the 1871 census - Piece: 1725 Folio: 38 Page: 11 then Caroline goes missing.

Mary is on the 1881 census but using her second name Jane - Piece: 1838 Folio: 42 Page: 21 and then she goes missing as well.

I can't find any deaths or marriages.

    Jane

    Name: Mary Jane Marsh
    Gender: Female
    Birth Date: abt 1871
    Age: 24
    Father's Name: William Marsh
    Spouse's Name: Edward Leah
    Spouse's Age: 25
    Spouse's Father's Name: Edward Leah
    Marriage Date: 2 Jun 1895
    Marriage Place: Willenhall, Staffordshire, England

Cannot find either of them on the census other than you already have.

I did find this possible marriage BUT not sure why it would be Staffordshire. going to check if there is a Mary Jane Marsh with father william in Staffordshire on the census. what a shame found this from the 1881 census:

    Name: Mary Jane Marsh
    Father: William Marsh
Birth: abt 1872 - Willenhall, Staffordshire, England
Residence: 1881 - Willenhall, Staffordshire, England

So that marriage I think can be ruled out!

Yes, that's them Elizabeth. William & Sarah went on to have two more children and I've traced all the family apart from Caroline Ellen and Mary Jane.

Sorry i couldn't be of more help Jane, I thought that maybe I had found caroline on the 1881 as a servant BUT wasn't her after all. I wonder if they both were sent abroad to live. I have a couple of Home children on my Hubbys tree. Another thought, did they have any Irish or Scottish relatives they could have been sent to?

hate it when people just vanish!

Did a search on ancestry to see if anyone else had them but no-one seems to have anymore info than you already have

No Irish or Scottish family - in fact, they came from a family which on the whole didn't move from a few close villages in Suffolk for generations.

Have you eliminated this Caroline in the 1901 census, married to Frederick Cornell?

I can't see a marriage for them and in 1891 Frederick seems to be living as a boarder in Lancashire

and married Frederick in Greenwich Q3 1892

Didn't see that one! Oh well, at least it probably eliminates that one!

Thanks for looking Elaine & Judith.

I have Petches in my tree as well, in fact there aren't too many names in the the village that don't seem to be in my tree at some point!

Have you discounted Caroline Marsh in 1881 (no birthplace given) who is in a home for neglected girls in Essex?

I hadn't seen that one Heather - rather a long way from home but who knows, perhaps she'd run away from home!!!
