  • What's the best way?

I've made a start and was doing so well! I have got back 4 generations on my mums side, which I'm really pleased about (silly I know) but I'm now hitting problems finding any information on my GGGM and GGGGM. I can find both on the census with their married names but can find nothing re birth or marriage in their maiden names. Any suggestions please! :(

One step at a time. As you've worked back to them you must have name, age and approx place of birth of GGGM's child (ne of your GGrandparents?) You need this person's birth certificate which will show mother's maiden name. Do get these direct line certificates as otherwise its all too easy to follow the wrong line back in time.

I have both their maiden names but that's where the trail goes cold.

put what info you have on them and see if anyone here can help you trace back.

f you looking just on ancestry it may be they don't have the records you need.

You can try familysearch.org for pre 1837 BMDs.
