I have hit a brick wall researching my mother’s past and am hoping other members might be able to suggest where I can try next.
My mother was apparently abandoned as a child of about 3 years old. She remembered walking beside a pram and then being asked to go into a shop. When she came out pram and mother, Nanny, or whoever, had gone.
She was raised in a children’s home, we believe, somewhere in the south of England and she always retained a “southern” accent – barth and not bath etc. Her maiden name was Elsie Wright and she was born on 19th July 1920 but her name and birth date may have been given to her at the home.
She apparently was in domestic service in the 1930’s and enlisted in the WAAF in August 1941. She was always extremely reticent about her past, and I have nothing to research apart from the above anecdotal history as she died many years ago. Any help would be gratefully received!
