I have a birth certificate for Barton Regis, Saint George Sub-district.

    The address listed is
    2 Villiers Road
    U.S.D

I googled it, but didn't find an explanation. Anyone know what "USD" means?

    thanks

Urban Sanitary District, in other places you may find RSD for Rural Sanitary District - the district covered by a particular authority responsible for sanitation- clean drinking water, sewers, slum clearance etc (replaced in 1894 by rural and urban district councils)

Thanks for that explanation. I had seen that myself and whilst understanding that it meant the local authority hadn't really thought about what the intials stood for.

            Thanks to all of you!

So, there's nothing to follow up on, speaking genealogically? I.e., no records for the District that would tell me about my ancestor?

No, the Urban Sanitary District is of absolutely no use whatsoever genealogically speaking.
