Does this say Gurney?

As Elaine said, Gurney is actually a surname, but it is not uncommon to include a maternal line surname as a middle name of a child in order to preserve it. My wife's mother's maiden name was Gurney and she has a lot of relatives with that surname fron the Wiggington (near Tring) area.
In this case Maria's father Benjamin married Sophia Brunel (daughter of the famous engineer Marc Brunel) and his mother was Ann Feltham. Sophia was named after her mother Sophia Kingdom. So you will have to dig a little deeper to find the woman called Gurney, if she indeed exists.Last edited by webwiz; 12-04-12, 21:47.People: Canton, Wiseman, Colthup, Scrace

Yes your theories are proving correct, I have found a John Gurney who was a witness at Ann and Benjamins wedding. I haven't discovered who he is yet or where he fits in but I am guessing there's a connection somewhere
Thank you

After having looked at this link I would say that the Gurney probably came from her maternal side and nothing to do with mother McNamara. http://genealogy.links.org/links-cgi...3740+2-2-0-1-0Chrissie passed away in January 2020.
