Not sure if anyone else has posted this, but Ancestry are offering free US 1940's era searches until 10th April. This doesn't include the 1940 census though.

Could be very useful to me! Oh dear! And I have so much to get done between now and then that does not concern genealogy! ;)
A bit of a disaster. I shouldn't still be up! Have found a number of records of EG - but with difficulty: the beta city directories are extremely badly transcribed. In many cases, they haven't picked up a header surname, so all the given names are transcribed as surnames. There are also chunks completely omitted.
Still - it gives a bit of a timeline for what he was up to!
