  • Harding boys emigrate to the US in 1864 and 1871, help please

Hello everyone - Am trying to trace the emigration of George John Harding, born Haddenham, Cambs in 1834, who left for the US in July 1864 and later his brother William born in Haddenham in 1847, who left for the US in July 1871 (their parents were Henry and Mary Ann Harding). I have found an 1890 Census record for a William and George Harding in Byron, Ogle, Illinois but the age for George doesn't fit! Any help on emigration records or census records gratefully received.
    Thank you for reading,
    Rachel

Thank you, yes that was where I found a William, wife, children and a George, but the age for the George doesn't fit. (Sorry it is George John!) Hoping for another source to get me going again!!

Wow, unusual to find anything in the 1890 census - most (but not all) went up in smoke. you're quite lucky!

looking at the Illinois George, it is looking like this one isnt yours, as that one was in Illinois in 1860.

hmmn I have found the 1880 census that you found, with William as Head with his wife and children also a boarder, George.. Williams occupation is shown as a Stone Mason, and George as a Mill Burr? Dresser.. (praps also stone mason but specialising?)

is it just Georges age that is throwing you ?

I can't see any other census at the moment.
