  • Quick 1841 Look-up Please

George BROWN age 30 in Milton, Hampshire in 1841 (RD is Lymington) with wife Matilda also 30.

Could someone tell me what his occupation is please?
Is anyone else in the household?
Is there any more detail on where they are living (say on the side of the return)?

    Thanks

George Brown etc are shown in the parish of Milton in 1841 and the word 'Chewton' is written sideways along each left hand side of several consecutive pages in the Enumerator's book. According to British History Online, Chewton was a tything in the parish of Milton, union of Lymington, hundred of Christchurch, Lymington and S.Division of the county of Southampton. Various places shown on the 1841 census pages with the Chewton annotation include Ossemsley, Bashley and Wootton, which are all near neighbours, north of New Milton. George Brown etc are shown at Wootton, which today lies just within the boundaries of the New Forest.

Hope this helps a little with the address.
