  • Walter Harold Prestidge 1889 - 1948

Just had sent to me by a relative. A list in Grandad's handwriting with a brief resume of his WW1 activities.

Lists battles and dates that he was in and the names of his Commanding Officers at the time.

Awarded the Military Cross and the MSM Medal

He went in at 14 years of age and stayed a soldier all his life.

Feel almost tearful reading it, especially as it's in his own handwriting

awww thats lovely Linda, and when its something like that it makes everything 'more real' and worth every minute that you have spent on the research.

I am always in awe when I see actual handwriting, makes that connection all the more precious.

How lovely, I always get tearful when I see things in their own handwriting.

I was lucky enough to be sent a photo of my Grandmothers brother who died in WW1 and it was signed by him. Then someone sent me a postcard of another brother of his that was in the war and on the other side he had written to his wife to meet him outside the telephone box and get him a beer in for his tea.

Also well done your Grandad for getting all those medals.
