  • Don't know how to sort this out! Please help

    Hello
I have deleted most of my tree and I think I need to start again. Can someone please help me determine the parentage of my Grandfather as I have looked at so many Phillips records I am now very confused.

    Robert Broughton 1912-1944

    His parents:

    William Broughton 1873-1935
    Mary Partlett 1867-1935

    Williams Parents:

    William E Broughton 1844
    Mary Ann Phillips 1846

I think Mary Ann Phillips father is James but the big problem I am having is deciding/determining which one as there seems to be hundreds of them and I keep getting it wrong and then it throws all of my information out!

I hope someone can help me

    Many thanks
    Debs

Hmmmm!! Now I am really confused!

I have an 1871 where he is still On Collingwood St, His name is misspelt as Braughton.

Collingwood St is right for our family, unless its another William?

Yes and I think it says James on the Banns, but then I struggle as there seem to be so many James - I followed one called James Ingram Phillips but I am as certain as I can be that he is not correct, and then I found loads of James and got all mixed up!

Have you got the marriage certificate for Mary Ann and William E ? If so what are their father's names and occupations?

Have you found any birth registrations for them?

                          Margaret

Mary Anns father is James, a Horse Keeper
William e's is John, a Turner

No I dont have birth certs, just the registrations.
                            The baptisms say:
William E parents John and Mary Ann, Turner
Mary parents John and Ann, I think it also says ?? Turner, I can't quite make it out

If you are sure you have the right Mary A Phillips Debs this one looks a good bet in 1861 as father James is a Horse Keeper -

And here they are in 1851 - but James is a Labourers bricklayer -

If you are absolutely certain Robert's parents are William and Mary, then, as Margaret says, you really can't go too much further without that marriage cert. Just make sure you only buy it from GRO.

I don't think you've told us exactly what certs you have Debs and how you got back to William E and Mary Ann?
