Hi Nick and welcome to FTF

FMP stands for 'Find My Past'. I don't know about those records but I'm sure that one of our lovely members will know and be along to help.

I have just had a Google and this is the link to the FMP Page - https://search.findmypast.co.uk/sear...rmen-1688-2010 and I don't know anything about this site but this was another page that came up - http://www.parishregister.com/aboutstp.html

Darn it. Got my myself over excited and went to look but the records are London/River Thames only. I have watermen and lightermen but they are Cheshire and then Staffordshire.

if you just need a records finding post the details and I can look later, or I am sure someone else will.

some might only be the transcription, or will be the image of the entry in the register, and may not actually be a certificate.

                                Hi Nick,

Seems everyone beat me regarding the transcriptions, but did you know that The Company of Watermen and Lightermen of the River Thames have archives and their Facebook page has this message:

"Want to trace your Watermen or Lightermen ancestors?
Watermen's Hall can conduct research enquiries into your Watermen or Lightermen ancestry, please make your initial enquiry by email to admin@watermenshall.org
A small charge is made for our research service, currently £30 for a straightforward genealogy enquiry (one surname). This charge benefits the Company’s charities.
For more information on this service please visit our website via this link https://watermenscompany.com/…/traci...lightermen…/
Please note: We can only supply information in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018"

Might be a good Christmas pressie ;)

Hi , the second one is def my Nan Lily .
Interesting Sydney’s father Arthur wasn’t trained by his father . I thought Lightermen were trained by family members ...
                                  like dock workers .
                                  lovely information thanks everyone .

It doesn't look as though Arthur' father was a Lighterman. In 1898 when Arthur married Emma he gave his father George Henry's occupation as Cab Proprietor - https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interacti...376.1569143934 - but in 1881 George appears to say Cheesemonger? and Grocer? - https://www.ancestry.co.uk/interacti...376.1569143934

Charney , ive ordered a licence for my grandfather Sydney from that website for £30.
