  • Marriage in Devon 1811

I have found the marriage of Daniel Butt and Sophia Strickland in Stoke Damerel Devon in 1811.
Can anyone, from this information find any records so that I can find their parents or is it too early for full information
    Regards
    Ann

    Hello Ann,

I have found the marriage on https://familysearch.org/pal:/MM9.1.1/N2GW-MXW

you could try looking for a baptism for Daniel around 1790, you won't find full details of the marriage in the parish records, but, you might find other family members that witnessed it.

I think that we have a member on here that is the OPC for Stoke Damerel, they might be able to help you a little further. I'll see if I can find them.

Have found the marriage online on a well known site

          As Sophia Stricklan
10 Oct both signed by their mark
Witnesses Edward Butt and Wm Roberts

Records this early don't include parents names as certificates from 1837 do, start by looking at the witness Edward Butt, relatives are often witnesses. Later census returns may give you an area but this early it means searching parish records. You may also find a naming pattern in the family which help identify family members...or not...to build up a picture

FMP has some Devon records online and not all are viewable but this one was

Can I just say that you are wonderful. My brain is slowing up a bit and I get a bit confused when I am faced with 1440 names to go through
                      Thank you

I looked at the baptism pages. They must have been a religious family going by the names. One daughter was called Virtue.
Poor Sophia, she has ended up miles from home living with her daughter and it says imbecile on the census

If you have FMP sub or credits, the 10 Oct 1811 marriage is amongst the Devon records there - including an image of the register.
