  • Journeyman Stonemason - trying to track his movements

I have an ancestor who is listed on his eldest daughter's birth certificate as "Stonemason (Journeyman)" and just as a stonemason on the Marriage Banns. Now, owing to the nature of his business, I'm having a little difficulty trying to find where he was for each census. Would anyone be able to tell me who would have hired a stonemason in the 1850s/1860s, so I can possibly narrow it down?

Ignore that original post. I think I may have him now.

The fact that it says journeyman does not mean he necessarily traveller around - the term meant 'employed by someone/not self employed'.

He would be working perhaps on a church or cathedral or any other stone building being erected in his town/village.
