GRO Certificate Ordering

I've not ordered a certificate for some time now from the GRO website.
There used to be a lookup reference for them to narrow down the search, I used it for common surnames.
The GRO only charged you £3.50 if there was no match to the reference, have the now done away with this option?
Do I have to pay the full price for each certificate now. I'm trying to find a death with the surname of 'Williams'

There is no look up service now but if you put all the information you have and it doesn't match then you don't pay anything.

However if you don't have any checking points then you do have to pay the cost of a full certificate.

Apparently it wasn't legal for them to be doing what they were so it has been stopped.

Thanks Margaret,
It was a very handy lookup reference and it did save me a couple a quid.
I have a possible 5 death's in the same year. same surname,age & area.

can you not contact the local office that concerns your Williams name, maybe they might be more helpful if you explain the situation to them? they might be able to have a look and if you give them specific pointers ie an address or possible NOK then they may be able to help.
