  • Trying to identify cap badges

I have a couple of cap badges (or shako plates) dating back to about the time of the Napoleonic wars, that I'm trying to find out more about.

One relates to the 56th Regiment of Foot, and the other to the First Royal Surrey Regiment.

Is anyone familiar with badges from this period, or can anyone point me to a useful website? I've tried all the ones I can find (including the military badges page in the FTF Reference Library), but haven't found anything helpful yet.

Hi Mary, I've found this forum helpful.
Researching Nickless & Evans, Shropshire & Montgomeryshire. Also Ord and Coulson, Co. Durham

        Mary,
If you google Napoleonic cap badges the phrase turns up quite a lot of sites, in the meantime try this one.

Whoever said Seek and Ye shall find was not a genealogist.
