  • Who was he and why give him a walking stick?

We have a walking stick with a plaque on it saying 'Presented to Thomas Sales as a mark of appreciation for his assistance to police 23-12-1922'.

I've had no luck finding out what he did - can anyone else spot anything?

I'm also trying to find out how Thomas Sales fits into the family as Sales isn't a family name. I don't have access to Ancestry at the moment - could some kind soul with access to the LMA records look at the marriage of Thomas Folder Sales in Mile End (Q3 1885) and tell me his age and what his father was called? I'm hoping this might be the man as I have Faulders in the early 1800s.

    Thanks

He was a 24 year old soldier and his father was Thomas Sales, a greengrocer. He married 21 year old Alice Squire. Both unmarried.

      Thanks for looking, Chrissie!

H'mm, Thomas Sales, greengrocer, doesn't ring any bells...I suspect he was some sort of cousin to my grandfather but if he was it looks like I'll have to go back another generation ot two to find him.

Life without Ancestry is very frustrating!
