  • Batemans in audley 41 + cen

I am trying to find the parentage of a Emma Bateman born Audley about 1840.
She married a john Tunnicliffe in 1860. The marriage does not give a fathers name. I have found an Emily Baptised 1841 in Audley to a Mary spinster.

A Look up on the census would be most appreciated

    Many thanks

    Julie

correction Audlem cheshire not audley which is in staffs

        There's this one:

        1841 : Ashton under Lyne

Margaret Bateman, 30, Cotton Weaver, born outside county
Jeremiah Bateman, 7, born in county
John Bateman, 5, born in county
Thomas Bateman, 3, born in county
        Elizabeth, 9mths, born in county

Off to see if there are more ........

Edited to say : IGNORE THIS. Don't know why I looked for an Elizabeth rather than an Emma.

Off to try to find the right person this time. Doh!

            's no good.

I can't find an Emma in the 1841 or 1851 census. But I've re-read your opening post and you mention an Emma and an Emily (let alone me confusing it with an Elizabeth!), but no Emily comes up either.

Do you know anything else that might help?

Thanks for looking STG. Unfortunatly that is all the info I have. GR census for the 51 have listed a mary 1821, john 1823 and a martha 1825. but I have not looked at the records so do not know what relation to each other they are.

I think Audley comes under the nantwich district if that helps

Is it Audlem (Cheshire) rather than Audley (Staffs).

If it's Audlem then I think it comes under the Nantwich registration district so this could be the birth registration

What was the date of the baptism you found?

I've done a search of the 1851 census just on surname Bateman, b. 1841 in Audley, Cheshire, and come up with this family living in Halmer End, Staffs ....

Samuel Bateman, 31, b. Haslington, Cheshire, coal miner
Mary Bateman, wife, 30, b. Wybunbury (?), Cheshire
                  Louisa, 10, b. Audley, Staffs
                  Emily, 1, b. Audley, Staffs

                  Any good to you?

                      Sorry, so very sorry,

The birth place is Audlem cheshire not Audley staffs. Think I should have an early night.

STG please forgive me for wasting your look up time

Do you have Emma's marriage certificate - if so do the names of the witnesses help at all?

                          Hi Elaine,

The info I have is from a transcription. The 81 cen has a mary baker aged 60 born Audlem with them but she is noted as an aunt.

A good night's sleep hasn't really helped much - still can't see anything useful!

In Audlem in 1851 there is this Bateman family:
Ralph head 62 farmer of 10 acres born Haslington Cheshire
Martha wife 57 born Shevington Cheshire
John son 28 employed at home born Audlem
Martha dau 26 dressmaker born Audlem
Emma grand dau 8 scholar born Audlem
Thomas grand son 6 scholar born Audlem

If Emma is the one born Q4 1841 she ought to be 9 but grandfather could easily have forgotten the little girl's age

I think this must be the family I am looking for. Thank you very much for looking this up for me.
