  • Mckenna family of Aughnacloy, Aghaloo Tyrone.

    Hello all,

I was just wondering if anyone can help me find out what happened to my McKenna family.

Joseph McKenna is one of the clan, he is my link.

    James McKenna - Father
    c1845 -

    Catherine McQuaid - Mother
    c1847 –

    Elleanor McKenna 1865 –

    Mary McKenna 1866 –

    Peter McKenna 1868 –

    James McKenna 1869 –

    John McKenna 1871 -

    Patrick McKenna 1872 –

    Margaret McKenna 1874 –

    Joseph McKenna 1876 –

    Michael McKenna 1877 –

All were born in Aghaloo with the exception of Elleanor who was born in Ballymagran.

I would love to know if anyone can find any mention of them anywhere as I cannot.

    Many thanks

    Danny

did they stay in ireland or come to the UK? if they stayed in ireland, have you looked for them in the irish 1901 and 1911 census? they are free to search and view.

As far as I am aware they stayed in Ireland. Joseph is my link and he married and lived in Belfast. I have not been able to find him on the census.
I will try the census but I am unsure where I can view the census for Tyrone to be honest.

            Thank you Margaret.

I have had a look on the Ireland Census site but as the names are quite common I am having no luck.
I do not have access to Ancestry at the moment but will keep it in mind in the future when I sign up.

What occupation do you have for Joseph and where did you get the family details from if you cannot see these people on the census?

I have all the birth details for Joseph and his siblings off roots Ireland website.
Joseph was just down as a labourer and his father James was a farmer.

Any idea of where in Belfast your Joseph lived? My family were there in 1901 and I couldn't find them easily so I though maybe search by address.

I just know they lived in Antrim. The marriage cert gives them living at separate addresses and I imagine they moved into together after that.
I think I tried there addresses when I first received the marriage cert and found nothing.

Danny - Sorry, I'm confused: what are you looking for? It sounds like you have all the births, are you looking for their deaths &/or marriages? Census entries? For each of them?

You have all the civil reg records for the births? Most are indexed on FamilySearch

Danny, did you look at the whole street where the addresses were? I am thinking the name has been badly mis -transcribed or badly indexed.

Sorry to confuse you. I am looking for any mention of them on the census and also marriages and deaths.

I did not check the whole street but I will have another look.

Have a look here http://www.belfastcity.gov.uk/burialrecords/search.asp for burials which also give date of death and age if you click on 'details' for any given entry.

Joseph was living at 190 Wilton Street and Agnes was at 25 Clonard Street.
I know Agnes was not living in Clonard Street on the 1901 or 1911 census as her father and mother were there on both.
I have not checked Wilton Street yet.
