  • For anyone doing Italian Research

Familysearch have today added millions of records https://www.familysearch.org/search/...&region=EUROPE for Italy and they are all browsable too so actual records.

It is possible that you may have to sign in to view browsable records as I had to a few days ago as they said it was because they are only custodians of the records I viewed.

There are many more new additions there for other places abroad and in the UK too.

I wouldn't get too excited, the records only cover a very small part of Italy, unfortunately.

There is no central database of Italian civil registration records.

i know mary, but the LDS have 'german marriages 1538-1900' (example) and then don't say what areas and dates are covered. i thought they did something like that.

Well I dont know anything about Italian research or the place names but I had hoped it would be useful to some of you and from the long list there must be quite a lot there to see.

Sorry you are dissapointed and I wish there were more there for you all but I am just the messenger as I like to keep abreast of what is available there.

Sorry, Edna, I wasn't meaning to criticise you at all. It's always useful to post these links, I just didn't want people to think that all or most of Italy was covered.
