  • Is it worth getting a refurbished lap top?

Some of you computer experts - could you advise please

I have the desk top computer but I would be in a real mess if it ever packed up and Ive had that happen in years past! I thought I may get a cheap lap top so that I could network it? to the main computer and so be able to access all my records/mail etc if anything dire happened. It would also be nice to sit down in the living room in the evening by the fire rather than stuck up in the little spare bedroom typing or surfing

Ive just been looking on amazon at some laptops (and whats the difference between a laptop and notebook please I dont want a tiny screen/key board?) and I saw things, for example, like this:

Would it be a waste of money and if so, what sort of lap top should I be looking for please? I dont run games or download films or anything, just do my word processing, records and family history/forums on it.

    Many thanks.

Just noticed Dell has its own outlet

Dave says that one on Amazon is a old model about 3 to 4 years old. You would be better to get a newer one or better still a brand new one. Dell are quite good.

PLEASE SCAN AT 300-600 DPI FOR RESTORATION PURPOSES. THANK YOU!

Got a Lenovo few months ago, for the money very pleased, got it for similar reason to poster, was a bit worried as its pretty much bottom of range (limited budget) would not be much, but so far very happy.

Notebook is the new name for Laptop, something to do with Health & Safety.

        Check PCWorld for refurbished Laptops/Notebooks.

It's better to consider just buying a new one. If all you're doing is surfing the net, email, etc., then get one without all the fancy extras. Dell is a good brand. Leveno is good, but more expensive than a Dell or Toshiba. I use Consumer Reports here in the US for researching. I don't know if there is an equivalent in the UK, but try them out. http://www.consumerreports.org. Thanks for listening.

Many thanks everyone, I will have a look at the lowest priced Dells I think. My desktop is Dell - had it 3 years and its been better than previous puters! Just extended the warranty for another 3 years on it.
