  • Help finding a marriage please

    Hello all,

Henry Marie Whelan born in either Paris or the USA and died in the Bronx, New York in 1981.
I am trying to find out if he married and from there try and make contact with any possible relatives.
First and foremost is to see about a marriage and possible kids.

Any help would be greatly received.

I wonder if he was in WW2 and his Army/Navy etc records would hold some info.
He was b 1913 so he it is just possible he was in the forces.
Just thinking aloud - I'm not having a successful day today..............

Since my initial success with the Whelan's, it seems to have gone a wee bit dry.
I don't have access to Ancestry at the moment so can't search through the war records.
I want to see if there are any living rellies from the Whelan kids but not having much luck at the moment.

I believe France. His father worked for the French Embassy so was back and forth a lot. Although he may well have been born in the USA, unsure where though.

Never mind the search, I found something on Ancestry that suggests he married a lady named Margaret Dunbeck but it does not state that they had kids.
However his brother Peter Paul Whelan married a lady named Isabella Fredericks and had 4 kids that are still alive. No name listed as they are alive. Anyone know of a way to find these living children?

Obits, probates to get names. Contacting tree owners if you find the subjects or their relatives in a tree. Ancestry does give "public directory" listings to about 1993 - that can be quite enlightening, and often has birth date. Searching with google. And last, for $$, hire an "heir searcher".

Each state has its own laws/regs about certs. Which state?

I believe all these marriages happened in New York.

I may have a surname to go with now but Val has just kindly contacted a tree owner for me so may get lucky and get the info from the horses mouth so to speak.
