Hi, I have a Harriet Allatt born 1833. She married Thomas Bramham 27 May 1854 at St Peters in Leeds. I can find her on census forms after she was married but have been unable to find her on the 1841 or 1852 census. I think her father was William Allatt a model maker, but I cannot find him either. Can any one help?

There's a plausible-looking family in 1851 at 29, Zion Street, Leeds (HO107/2319 fo 792 p 2) but the father is John, a joiner. There's a brother called William who's a mechanic.

The same family (with some more members) is here in 1841, in Zion Sqre, Leeds: HO107/1343 bk 3 fo 17 p 26
But they seem to be using ALLOTT at that point.

Using YorksBMD - looking at the births 1839 - 1841 - there must have been a marriage between a William ALLOTT and a woman whose surname was JAGGER. But the family seems to have been living in Sandal, Wakefield.

It's all very confusing. I thought William was Harriet's father because of this: http://search.ancestry.co.uk/cgi-bin...rriage&indiv=1
Now I think he must have been her brother? Maybe he gave her away because her parents disapproved of the wedding???

thinking about it, if they had a son called William then it might be that in order not to confuse people the father used his middle name so to distinguish themselves?Julie
