  • Which ship did my relative travel on?

Mabel Hardie travelled from NZ to London with her parents William and Annie Hardie about 1938-1939. I am trying to find out which ship and when and to view the passenger list.

They sailed on the Strathnaver from Sydney to London, arriving on 25 May 1939. They gave their proposed address in England as the Cumberland Hotel in Marble Arch. William was a company manager, he and Annie were aged 63, and Mabel 22.

They gave their country of last permanent residence as NZ, and intended future residence as "other parts of the British Empire" (ie. other than the UK and Ireland), so it sounds as though they weren't intending to stay.

You can find the passenger list on Ancestry:

That is so helpful Mary. I know they had to come back because the war was starting but again I dont know when; just know they were one of the last ships to go through Suez before war broke out.

          Thank you.
I remember now that I was told it was the Stratheden.
