I don't know why but it just sounds female to me.

Thanks Herky. I think I'll add it to my tree as female for now unless anyone thinks differently.

Hi Lynne - I have a female 'Renny' marrying into our family in the mid 1700's in Cambridgeshire if that is any help.

I thought at the time that it was an unusual christian name, which is why your thread jumped out at me.......lol

              Hi Lynne,
I have just notice you have the name Cresswell in your research interests.

I also have this name in my direct line and a lot of them ended up in Scotland in the Steel industry. PM me if you want to compare notes.
Sorry folks - I am off topic again.

                Thanks Lin & Val.
Herky, my Cresswells were from Manchester so I don't think we have a connection.

In my family Rennie crops up as a boys name, in Lancashire family surnames were frequently given as first names for sons.

                          Hi OC
Rennie Potts was born in 1916 in Colne, Lancs, registered in Burnley and as far as I am aware there is no Scottish connection.

You could see if he/she married, which would give a clue. Or even invest in a birth certificate,if that will give you a good night's sleep.

UJ, I think you have come up trumps. I hadn't thought of looking for a marriage but I have found this, which seems to imply it was a male.
