  • Hamblys in Bickleigh

Can anyone help find a marriage for:

Thomas Hambly & Ann Mary Treliving (or Treviling??)
    1841 - Bickleigh, Devon
1851 - Bickleigh, but only Ann and her children.

Also, looking for the birth of Thomas Hambly(b 1791, based on 1841 record). In 1841, he indicated he was born in the county - but so did Ann. In 1851, she was from Antony, Cornwall.

My interest lies in their child, Shadrach Mitchell Hambly. He was a witness to a marriage in Middlesex (Susannah Mitchell, possibly an ancestor). I need to understand how he ties into my Middlesex Mitchells. To save time, let me say I have already traced him forward thru the censuses until he dies.

    The baptisms I found:
    19 Oct 1828 - Harriet Trelevin Hambly - Tamerton
28 Dec 1834 - Nancy Trevliving Hambly - Bickleigh (Abode Fancy)
21 May 1837 - Shadrach Mitchell Hambly - Bickleigh (Jump)
4 Oct 1832 - Thomas Doddidge Hambly - Bickleigh (born to Thomas & Mary Ann) (Jump)
    3 Jul 1831 - Thomas Trethn - Bickleigh (Jump)

    variations on the surname:
29 Aug 1824 Anne Freathey Hamblyn - Tamerton
8 Aug 1822 John Treleaven Hamblyn - Tamerton
17 Dec 1820 Elizabeth Treliving Hamly - Tamerton

I looked for their marriage in Bickleigh and Tamerton - nothing. Haven't looked in Antony.

    Thanks!

Ah, yes - I forgot to mention about that Thomas Hambly.

There's even a Shadrach in that family. But it's quite a ways away. I'm keeping an open mind about it

      Thanks, Julie

I notice that you have this one already, but this is spelt right.

        Name:Anne Freathy Hambly
        Event Type:Baptism
        Christening Date: 02 Oct 1826
        Christening Place: Devonport, Devon
        Father's Name: Thomas Hambly
        Mother's Name: Ann Mary
        Record Set:RG4_0865

I take it you have looked in the Non-conformist records to see if you can find a marriage there?

I now have Ann Mary's birth in Antony, Cornwall. The marriage records ended too soon to check for a wedding, but I think it must be in Antony. Now I need to look for registers from ~1821

No, I haven't checked non-conformists. Hadn't thought they were. All children were baptized C/E

Ok, now I'm really confused. I'll need to go back and check, but I thought I was looking at a transcription of C/E records for Tamerton & Bickleigh.

I'm hoping these same records are transcribed on the Genealogist? I'll check them sometime in the next week.

Would the children have been baptized twice? Once C/E, but also a non-conformist church?
