  • 1901 census help please ..

I have this family in 1891:
Alfred Lawrence c1862 Horksley, Essex - occ labourer (bricklayer)
Annie Lawrence c 1868 Pelgrans Hald, Essex (I think she is actually Rose Annie, but not 100% sure - place of birth is probably Pilgrims Hatch)
    Rose Lawrence c1888 Brentwood, Essex
Violet Lawrence c 1890 Plumstead, Kent

    living in Plumstead Kent
    RG12; Piece: 540; Folio 77; Page 24

I am going cross eyed trying to find any of them in 1901. I am hoping by then they have another daughter May Annie Lawrence, born c1900 Plumstead.
    Any help appreciated!

Yes, that's definitely them as 4 Sladedale Road rings a bell.
Can you give me the reference - for some reason I still can't find them.
Must be having a very senior moment!!

Sorry - ignore that - found them.
Had left something in one of the search boxes on Ancestry (which I didn't want) which was giving me a "no result" every time!
        Doh!!!

On the census sheet on GR it says RG13 574.. i don't know if that helps or if someone that has an ancestry account can help fill the gap?

Seems they did a disappearing act in the 1911 census - can't find them anywhere!
They were at 4 Sladedale Road, Plumstead in 1891 and 1901 - in 1911 the house is unoccupied! :(

Have a look at this one
LAWRENCE, Alfred Head Widower M 43 1868 Brick Layers Labourer Essex England Colchester
LAWRENCE, Edward Son M 14 1897 Tan Factory Essex England Colchester
LAWRENCE, May Daughter F 11 1900 School Essex England Colchester

                Address:
7 Garden Court West Stockwell Street Colchester

I know the places of birth are out but they have changed from 1891 to 1901 by the look of it. It was the occupation that caught my eye.

Ignore this as I think the name is actually Laurence on the image.

Not sure about that one Margaret - it may match this family in the 1901 census, although Alfred isn't listed

I am expecting them, or at least May, to still be in the Plumstead area as she marries in Bexleyheath in 1920. By that time her father Alfred had died - his occupation on her MC is Sanitary engineer which sounds a little better than his occupation of sewerman on the 1901 census!

Actually on looking closely at the 1901 Alfred does say born Colchester and Horkesley is in Colchester so I think it is a good possibility it is him after all.

.. but as far as I know there is no Edward born 1897 and May was born in Plumstead, not Colchester.

Have you got FMP Elaine? The reason I ask is because if you can't find it on there, then I certainly won't be able to! lol

Yes I have got FMP, Vivienne.
I am wondering if they were still living at 4 Sladedale Road at the time, the same as in 1891 and 1901.
Just seems coincidental that it has been listed as unoccupied in 1911, perhaps they were away on their hols!

There doesn't seem to be any holiday destinations in the list & anyway I would have thought they would be into fruit or hop picking later in the year for hols! ;D
