From the London Family History Centre

In case you have not heard, our Family History Centre closed on 20 August because of refurbishment of the building on Exhibition Road. However, we are happy to report that we have found a wonderful temporary home as described below in a joint announcement from The National Archives and ourselves:
London Family History Centre services move temporarily to The National Archives in Kew

“From Tuesday 13 September, the London Family History Centre will temporarily relocate its services from South Kensington to The National Archives in Kew. This move is as a result of building refurbishment and will last several months. The National Archives’ reading room services will not be affected during this time.

Patrons of the London Family History Centre will be able to use the microfilm collection, which will also be temporarily located at Kew. Film ordering should be completed as usual at www.londonfhc.org, as should group research visits (which will be subject to confirmation of space availability at Kew). The Tuesday talks are planned to start in October, again depending on space availability.”

It is estimated that we will be back in Exhibition Road in 7-8 months, but the exact date will only be available nearer to the time of the project completion.

As kew is not that far from me, will try to go, what not sure about is how to use it. Do you have to get in contact with them before going to order films or if it seems to be one found using the search facility, just go?
Ones am interested are Cornish records specifically Talland/Polperro when I found using search it says no photocopies, does this mean can only look at and not get any form of hard copy

No need to contact in advance, but you can check which records they have available in their stock. For example, they only seem to have some Wesleyan Chapel and Methodist registers on film for Polperro, but many more for Talland (see here:

For other films, you can search on the LDS Library Catalogue at:
Discover your family history. Explore the world’s largest collection of free family trees, genealogy records and resources.

Take the Film No. in which you are interested and insert it in the search box at: http://www.londonfhc.org/
This will show whether they have that particular film in their permanent stock for you to look at.

If not, you can order it for the usual fee and they will notify you when it is available.

At the Exhibition Road Centre, you could take a photocopy of a page or a scan to your memory stick (small fee per sheet), and I presume similar facilities will be available whilst they are at Kew.

      Hope this helps,
      Carol
