  • Hector McKinnon HLI

Looking for Hector McKINNON b. 1868 on the Isle of Mull, no father on birth cert. mother Effy McKinnon. He is on the 1871 & 1881 census's on Mull both times living with his grandmother Margaret McKinnon but he is called Hector Simpson on the 1881 census. After that no trace of him, although have been told there is a Hector McKinnon on the 1891 English census in the H.L.I. barracks Dover. Can anyone tell me if it states birth place Mull on the census. There were 4 Hector McKinnon's born in Scotalnd in 1868.

Says he is Single and from Scotland I'm afraid.
Have you tried eliminating the other three?

If you can find his baptism, you may be lucky and find his father's name, as his mother may have been interrogated by the church elders.
