    Hi

I have a Leith Marriage between Peter Wemyss and Mary Russell from 1827. Mary is listed as living in Leith and "daughter of the late Thomas Russell Engineer there". The only Thomas Russell death in Leith is in 1812 (Mary was baptised in Newcastle in 1809) aged 54 and a builder. Could an Engineer also be called a builder or is it likely his burial wasnt recorded?

Have you looked to see if any Thomas Russell made a will? Search is free on SP and the detail in the index can be enough to identify the correct person.

Wouldn't it say 'here' if the registration was in Leith and he was working in Leith?

Ive got no idea. There is a Leith South and a Leith North so it could have meant that? Or that it just meant "there" as in the same house that Mary Russell was living in? On the same page are a couple of brides residing in Leith and for fathers residence its states a different parish. There are also another couple who are written the same as mine with "there" instead of a parish name
