  • Spouse's family

I use FTM 2011 and am now inputting my family tree. I am also researching my spouse's tree prior to inputting.

What is the most common approach to a spouse's tree? He is in my tree now.

Should I continue adding his info into my tree — or start a separate tree for him?

I would like to be able to see if and where there are crossovers if at all possible (I know there are some).

What are the pros and cons of inclusion in my tree versus set up as a separate tree?

Any help you can give would be appreciated.

I think it depends what you want, Maureen. I keep my tree and OH's tree separate because it helps to keep it manageable, but if you have crossovers perhaps you're better off with one tree?

    (and welcome to FTF!)

Yopu could create them separately (two different trees and two different FTM files) then merge them together at a later date if needed, if you do that keep the third "merged" tree as a separate file again and you won't mix them up when viewing/editing.

The only downside to that option seems to be the problem with duplicate individuals as mentioned in another thread, (http://www.familytreeforum.com/showt...-First-cousins), i'm not a 2011 user so not sure what the scale of the problem is.
