Thanks Val. On birth's there is a Henry Bursill on sept quarter 1864 st pancras and one in islington sept 1865. so i'd guess that baptism is linked with the one in st pancras 1864. Might have to get my great great grandfathers birth cert from 1865 to see who his parents are. i have on a bit of paper that his older brother charles born c1861 might have been llegitimate. There might be a baptism for Charles.

No unfortunately, he and his brother charles were down on the 1881 census as son in law to the tucker family but maybe that should have been step sons? i can't find them on the 1871 census. Charles married in 1888 and appears on the 1891 census. Henry married sarah in 1889 and appears on 1901 and 1911 census but can't find them 1891.

Usually Craig when they are described as Son in Law/Daughter in law it means that they are children from a first marriage, it might be that the father died and the mother remarried.

Aha. Thanks for that Dark... Next thing for me then will be to look at the mother and see if there is a marriage been a sophy to a Bursill around the time when charles was born or before that?

Thanks dark and val. The mystery thickens lol.

Unless i get the birth cert for Sophia i guess that's the only way to prove her parents.

It seems like all of them either dodged the census lol or the name was spelt differently on the census before 1881 as i can't find any of them.

Will work on this later today and post what i find.

Wow thank you so very much dark. a MASSIVE help. . No wonder i couldn't find them on some of the earlier censuses...they were slightly different spelling...

I don't have ancestry just GR but i can get the census sheet from the information you have provided and can follow that backwards now.

Now i just need to bridge the gap between Sophia and her illigitamate? kids Charles & Henry (my grandfather) in 1861 and 1871.
