I have decided that I really need to order my OH's Great Grandmothers Birth Certificate. I am seriously concerned that her parents might not be who I thought they were. I am not sure exactly what is wrong but something doesn't quite add up!!
Florence Hinchcliffe born Rotherham 1869 parents ( I thought) William Hinchliffe and Emma Woodcock. The couple married in 1862 and had 9 Children. The first was born 1863 and the last was born in 1880. Florence, born 1869 was the 4th born and came between siblings born 1867 and 1871 so nothing to suggest any thing is wrong and although she is with her aunt and uncle in 1871 she is with her parents(?) and siblings in 1881(?). The only reason that I am now questioning her parentage is that I was following marriages of three of her sibling who married in West Yorkshire and having got the information I decided to check if any of the other siblings married in West Yorkshire. In doing this I found that they baptised the first 6 of their children in Royston, Barnsley (Emma's home parish). But... Florence was not baptised despite the fact that she was the 4th born and the children immediately before and after were baptised. The only other two not baptised in Royston were the last two. The other factor, which with hind sight is making me question her parentage is all the other 8 siblings have a middle names. Florence, to my knowledge, does not. The children's middle names are also shown on the census returns.
I am hoping the birth certificate will give me a definitive answer. If I have been following the wrong family then at least I will be able to put it right!!
