Nothing coming up on Familysearch.org other than a submitted entry that doesn't say where it has come from

There's this entry found on ancestry, possibly a brother
Thomas, son of John and Mary Hooper 30 Dec 1778
        Book: Baptisms. (Baptism)
Collection: Devon: Barnstaple - Parish Register, 1538-1812

But what it positively signifies for you is that the register for the relevant period has been transcribed.

Have a look at the Reference Library page on this site http://www.familytreeforum.com/content.php/105-Devon and see if that gives any clues as to where you can look for the parish registers.

Thanks Margaret. The IGI has Thomas Hooper as the son of John Hooper and Mary Scott.

Do you have Joan on 1861 and 1871 and her death in 1873? I have them if you need them but as you are looking for George's parents I am assuming you may already have them.

Please bear in mind these are only possibilities.

1861 living "Beehive" Meshaw , born 1786 Mariansleigh, Devon, Head - Widow - Jenny Hooper, formerly farmer's wife.
Another head of household at the same address is Charles Jeeves/Jervis 23 Unmarr - tailor and draper

There is no- one with the name- Jenny Hooper - in any other census, or BMD that I have found.

1871 living Village, Witheridge, born 1784 Mariansleigh, Devon, Head - Widow - Joan Hooper, formerly an Innkeeper.
                      Farmers were often Innkeepers too.

Meshaw, Mariansleigh and Witherage are all in South Molton Registration District.

                      Death:
                      Joan Hooper
                      age 88
                      Jan-Feb-Mar 1873
                      South Molten 5b 333

I think you would need the Death Cert - it usually gives Spouse name even if he is deceased.
