Printer not working

I have a new printer, it appears to have taken the files alright but the computer does not reconise that a printer is attached via the usb cable any suggestions?

have you tried logging off and on again ? or unplugging the cable then putting it back ? or trying a different USB port ??

You sometimes find that if you plug in the printer before you actually install the driver files it can cause this problem.
Or it could be a faulty USB cable?

You could try this first
uninstall the printer files via Add-remove on control panel
Then make sure the printer is not plugged into the PC and run the install program supplied.
Once the program has been run, then you plug in the printer
Hopefully the PC will then recognise it has been attached and use the drivers that it will have had installed to complete the set-up.
