  • Occupation: Tideman?

I've found a William Blackbourn listed in a 1791 directory for Sandwich, Kent under the heading "Tidemen". Does anyone know what tidemen did? It's obviously maritime (like the rest of his family), but I can't figure out exactly what he did....

    Thanks for your help!

Aah! That makes sense, thank you. I'd tried other "old occupation" sites with no luck, but I hadn't found this one.

He's a member of a sea-faring family and other members of his family were captains of slave-ships. It's nice to know that at least one member of that clan had a respectable occupation!
