  • Possible discrepancy between Liverpool Catholic Burials & GRO??

Can anyone offer some advice please? I have found a death of an ancestor John Begley on Ancestry Liverpool Catholic Burials on 4 April 1924. Unfortunately it doesn't say how old he was when he died. I am not sure exactly which John Begley he is (everyone in my family is John Begley!) but I know he is my ancestor as it is my dad's old address (and name!). So I looked for the GRO listing for 1st and 2nd quarter 1924 and it's not there! Can anyone think why this is so?

    Thank you.
    Best wishes, Polly

Begley - St Helens & Liverpool & somewhere in Ireland; Foster - Liverpool & Yorkshire (Ripon & Leeds); Pendleton - Huyton & Liverpool; Milnes - Leeds & Ripon; Banister - Preston; Wales - Liverpool & Cumberland; Ireland - Prescot; McDonough - Liverpool; Quirk - Liverpool; Hunt - St Helens; Tickle - St Helens

Could he have died elsewhere, and brought back to his home for burial?

It's possible that the name got garbled before being entered into the GRO index.

Unfortunately, the LancsBMD deaths don't include Liverpool, yet.

I think I know what's wrong. In the registers of Catholic Burials on Ancestry they have pages of burials - names, date of death, age, grave no etc - and then some pages of people who bought a grave eg name of purchaser, price of plot, grave no etc. It is very confusing. I had wondered why, next to my John Begley's name, it said the price of the plot, and not his age. It must be when he bought the plot for his family!! So he wasn't dead after all!!!

Has anyone else noticed this? I find it very irritating and confusing though; particularly so because when you just click on the abbreviated bit it definitely says "date of burial of John Begley". Misleading to say the least!
          Best wishes, Polly

There are five John BEGLEY Lancashire deaths transcribed on FreeBMD, if you start in 1924.

I don't know who four of them are Christine! The 1931 John Begley is my great grandfather.

Heather - I'm confused!! You know roughly when John Begley died as it's mentioned in a letter? Are you researching the Begleys? Do you have a letter about the Begleys? I am SO excited!!! I have yet to meet anyone researching my Begleys; I hope I've not misunderstood your message!!
                Best wishes, Polly
