  • Ged programme for windows 7

I have Family Trees on my computer saved in GEDCOM form. I now need to "unscramble" them. My FTM has stopped working, but I really just want a simple GEDCOM converter. Can anyone recommend a reliable programme for Windows 7 please.

    Thanks

If you look at our Genealogy Software page in the Reference Library - click here - you will find links to a couple of free software programs, namely Personal Ancestral File (PAF) and Legacy, as well as information on the more popular software packages currently on the market. All of these will open files in GEDCOM format.

Legacy is brilliant. I have it on Windows XP and Windows 7. The free download is the best around and really you never need to buy anything. I bought the full program years ago and as yet, have never used the extras that aren't on the freebie.

Have you tried running FTM in compatibility mode?
Using this mode Windows 7 runs as if it was Vista or XP allowing older programs to work.
