William Hooper the Elder

William was born in Mariansleigh, Devon in 1827. The later 1861 census in Castle Cary, Somerset, shows him married to Hannah from Co. Wicklow, Ireland.

I'm struggling to find out Hannah's maiden name. I've got the basic Ancestry package but no luck so far.

Any help would be much appreciated!

One of the children's birth certificates would give you MMN, which might help to find the marriage.

Just double checking the 1861 census and I've noticed that their daughter Mary Hooper was born in Glenealy, Co. Wicklow too. So presumably William must have gone over to Ireland from England for some reason, married a local girl over there and stayed at least until daughter Mary was born around 1855.

I wonder why he'd settle down there?

I just found him via rootschat.

He married Hannah Mackey on October 1853 at Glenealy, Co Wicklow.
