Can anyone tell me what "Single Grave" means in burial records.
    Is it a communal grave.
    Thanks

Single = one so its a grave for one person as opposed to a double or a family plot.
I've seen somewhere atheory that poor people are more likely to be in single graves as they couldn't afford to buy/lease a larger plot but not sure anything I've found in my family bears that out.

In Scotland you can get graves which are initially dug deep enough for up to 4 people to be buried. The same is probably true elsewhere.

In our village churchyard, all the graves are "single" and are only deep enough for one burial.
This is governed by the geology - on solid chalk and very hard to hand dig.
If needed, the next plot is left free for the single grave of the spouse/other family member.

          Thanks everyone.
At least I know now that not likely to find any more info re ancestors if only a single person in grave.
