  • Hardie family/Murdoch

How would I find more infomation about the following. William Hardie married Margaret Murdoch in Scotland about 1740 ish. They had a son Alexander who married Elspet on 2.09.1777. The area they lived was probably around Glasgow, or Elgin.
    Alexander was born 1745.
Alexander and Elsetp had 5 known children Jane 1778, Margaret 1780, William 1783, Elspet 1785, James 1790.

According to the IGI they marriage in 1740 in Alves, Moray, Scotland.
Using this information on Scotland's People and narrowing down the search it appears that the marriage was on 1st January 1740. Not sure what other info can be gleaned from the Scotland's People download.

You're in the hands of the minister who recorded the event. Some are just the bare bones; others provide a lot more information.

Thank you. How could I find out who the other children were apart from Alexander?

If you get the index page from SP with the information Elaine has given you (costs 1 credit), that should tell you the parish. You can then do another search on that parish and parents' names to see what pops out. In parallel you could do a search on the familysearch site with the same infomation and see how many likely hits you get. Familysearch normally transcribe complete registers, so you should get the lot, provided all the baptisms were at the same church.

I narrowed it down to the parish of Alves just by doing a free search.

Thank you. There seems to be a problem trying to get this information from familsearch.org. Do you have a link as they have changed their site?

I still use the original site for searching the IGI - http://www.familysearch.org/eng/sear...lear_form=true

From the IGI - these show up with parents Alexander & Elspet or Alexander & Elizabeth - so you may need to check them out on Scotlands People. Not sure if Elspet is a derivative of Elizabeth.

Well, as I said the parents of those I listed were Alexander and Elspet Hardie and Alexander and Elizabeth Hardie.
You might need to view the entries on Scotlands People to see if Elspet and Elizabeth are the same person or whether it is two different families.
