I'm trying to find a King St, Commercial St, in the parish of St George in the East (a Jewish couple married at home there in 1847 .....address of 8 King St, Commercial St is taken from the marriage certificate)
Commercial St is in Spitalfields (King St may be long gone). I've got an 1843 London street map & one from 1901. Commercial St was constructed to break up one of the worst slum areas....the clearance/building didn't start till 1843 & the idea didnt really take off....there were still unsold plots in 1869. Anyway, I'm obviously not surprised that I can't find it on the 1843 map, but I can't find it on the 1901 one, either. I've checked the area around Commercial Rd, just in case there was an unlikely mistake.
I may have simply missed it. There were so many narrow alleys & streets around there (Jack the Ripper country) that it may not have been marked. But I'd be grateful if anyone could tell me if they can help'
